to Sister Jane

Our Story

Welcome to Sister Jane: your welcoming, neighborhood tavern in the East Village!

Sister is the operative word for our tavern, as the concept, design, and menu stem from the original Tavern on Jane, located for more than 21 years in the West Village. Tavern on Jane is the quintessential neighborhood restaurant bar where people have been gathering, socializing, and eating for many years. The Sister embraces the casual neighborhood friendliness with fresh food and cheer now in the East Village.

Focused on fresh food, locally sourced and seasonally fresh, Sister will always prepare every item on our menu to order. Our chef, Josh La Badie, is our executive chef at Tavern on Jane and oversees the kitchen at Sister Jane. Using the same purveyors for both restaurants insures consistent preparation of every dish. The menu at Sister is similar to that of the Tavern only slightly smaller. No worries, many of your favorites will be available at both restaurants!

Sister Jane’s menu offers crave-worthy comfort foods, ranging from large portions to share, such as Golden Fried Calamari or Jalapeño Cheddar Hushpuppies, to a selection of Burgers and Mains. Recently, our Tavern Wings were awarded Third Best Sauce in Manhattan by Time Out Magazine! Our open-flame grill gives our burgers that outdoor-cooked flavor. All of our burgers are 100% grass-fed Pat LaFrieda ground special for us. Come in and taste the difference.

Come spend some time under our tin ceilings at our mahogany bar. Sip a cool glass of wine, sample one of our many single malt scotches, single barrel ryes or bourbons. Our selection or draft and craft beers will quench any and all thirsts. The friendly bar and wait staff will help you discover something new and exciting with several of our own original cocktails. Make sure to check our website as in the future we will be having live acoustic music featuring local blues and rock ’n’ roll.

Sister Jane is located 1 block from the L train on 13th Street.

Come and visit Tavern on Jane’s little twin sister, Sister Jane. The East will rise again. Side that is!
